PROKOFIEV Suite from Romeo and Juliet
ORFF Carmina Burana

For the first time ever the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra performs Carmina Burana, the explosive, flamboyant choral spectacular composer Orff subtitled “secular songs for singers and choruses to be sung together with instruments and magic images.”

Carmina Burana, which is based on a series of bawdy 13th-century poems about wine, women and song, was an immediate success at its 1937 premiere, and has remained so through the decades. Indeed, the highly dynamic secular cantata—which opens with the universally-known choral song O Fortuna—is among the best loved concert pieces of the 20th century. Performing with the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra are Canada’s premier coloratura soprano Tracy Dahl and internationally acclaimed baritone Hugh Russell along with tenor John Daniecki.
