RICK HARRIS’ productions for Harper Audio have earned 14 Grammy Award nominations and one Grammy Award. Harris was drama critic for WBAI-FM radio in New York for 25 years. This entertaining series, illustrated with film clips, will provide insights into some of your favorite films and film stars.
February 1 and 4: Sin and Censorship in American Film
Between 1934 and 1968, the films Americans saw were strictly scrutinized by Hollywood’s own censors to protect the American public from exposure to such evils as divorce, miscegenation, unpunished crime, criticism of the clergy or foreign nationalities, and all forms of what was deemed to be sexual immorality. When cultural styles changed in the 60s, Hollywood tried to keep up.
