JOHANN STRAUSS JR. A Selection of Waltzes and Polkas

Sibelius Violin Concerto—the only concerto the composer wrote—includes an extended cadenza and requires a considerable technical facility on the part of the soloist, providing a dramatic opening to the evening which is then followed the archetypal unfinished symphony, Franz Schubert's Symphony No. 8. Written in 1822, six years before his death, Schubert’s intentions for the two-movement work have been the subject of endless debate; what is not debated is that the “Unfinished” symphony is one of Schubert's most popular compositions. The evening concludes with a selection from the over 500 waltzes, polkas and quadrilles composed by “The Waltz King.”
